The outcome of the Israeli elections has shown that the only real opposition to the current right-wing Israeli government and its anti-peace policies is the Joint List.

The Joint List is dealing with electoral victory responsibly, after adding seats over the course of Israel’s three elections in the last year, now reaching a historic high mark for predominantly Arab parties

We are not responding to the hateful incitement we have heard from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his supporters. Rather, in the interest of lasting peace and security, we are moving ahead with our political platform to advance the cause of equality, social justice and freedom in a country that systematically violates those basic principles.…  Seguir leyendo »

En dépit du fait que nous vivons ici depuis des siècles, Israël a, depuis sa fondation, en 1948, tenté de faire en sorte que ses citoyens palestiniens, les survivants de la Nakba, se sentent comme des étrangers dans leur propre patrie. Israeli officials will not throw me in jail for publicly supporting such boycotts, but settler groups can claim financial damages without even having to show any harm done.…  Seguir leyendo »

With Netanyahu’s backing, the Israeli cabinet voted in support of Lieberman’s loyalty oath for non-Jewish immigrants, which requires allegiance to a “Jewish and democratic state” of Israel. It was as if Mexican immigrants to the United States would have to swear allegiance to a United States that is white and Protestant, while immigrants from Europe would face no such oath.

In response to an international outcry, notwithstanding silence from American officials, Netanyahu has called for an amendment that would impose the oath on all immigrants, Jewish and non-Jewish alike.…  Seguir leyendo »
