
Vaccinating Venezuelan migrants is crucial to the fight against covid-19
In a year of worldwide health crisis, Latin America and the Caribbean are among the regions to be hit the hardest. In May, the number of covid-19 deaths in the region surpassed 1 million, meaning 31 percent of worldwide deaths have occurred in a region home to only 8.4 percent of the world’s population. Containing the spread is tougher in the context of developing countries, where staying at home means forgoing wages that pay for meals, and getting infected is easier as numerous people work in the informal sector and may share smaller households.
