Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who claims to have planned the 9/11 attacks and personally beheaded Daniel Pearl, says he wants to be a martyr.

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. Maybe he believes that if executed by the United States he will be winged to paradise and the company of 72 virgins. Maybe he doesn't.

Two things are clear: he really does believe his guilty plea on Monday before a military commission at Guantánamo Bay will force the US to sentence him to death or tie itself in knots rejecting his plea.
