The most artistically perfect thing George Lucas ever did was come up with a name for his special-effects company. Industrial Light & Magic was founded by Lucas in the spring of 1975, in a small, grey warehouse in the San Fernando Valley, some 20 miles from the Fox studio lot in Century City.

Lucas chose the name because he thought it would throw snoopers off the scent: to him, it suggested an electronics wholesaler, rather than the dream laboratory that would bring the world lightsabers and the Death Star. Unwittingly, though – and you suspect that many of Lucas’s better decisions have been, at best, only partly witting – he had pinpointed his precise role in film history, and this two years before Star Wars was completed.…  Seguir leyendo »
