Arriesgarme a hacer un llamamiento público estando encarcelado en la tristemente famosa prisión iraní de Evin dice mucho de lo profunda que es mi desesperación. He sufrido en silencio casi 2500 días, que deberían haber sido de los mejores y más productivos de mi vida, pero se perdieron tras estos barrotes. Pero me veo ahora obligado a romper mi silencio porque creo que la estrategia del gobierno de Joe Biden para rescatar a los estadounidenses en apuros ha sido un estrepitoso fracaso hasta ahora, y, a menos que el presidente intervenga de inmediato, es probable que languidezcamos en este abismo en el futuro cercano.…  Seguir leyendo »

Risking a public appeal while caged in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison speaks volumes about the depth of my despair. I have suffered quietly as nearly 2,500 of what should have been the best and most productive days of my life were lost behind these bars. But I am compelled to break that silence now because I believe that the Biden administration’s approach to rescuing Americans in distress in Iran has failed spectacularly so far and unless the president intervenes immediately, we are likely to languish in this abyss for the foreseeable future.

I was incarcerated in October 2015 and handed a 10-year sentence after a closed-door trial.…  Seguir leyendo »

Patients in Iran are dying of treatable diseases because of shortages in life-saving medicines. The past year has been nothing short of catastrophic for the Iranian health-care sector: Imports from American and European drug makers in 2012 were down by an estimated 30 percent since 2011, and they continue to fall.

Over the past three months, I led a group of independent business consultants with expertise in Iran to evaluate the problem. After conducting extensive interviews in Tehran and Dubai with Iranian importers and manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment and their Western counterparts, we concluded that even though in theory the sanctions regime imposed on Iran by the United States and the European Union is supposed to allow humanitarian trade, in reality it impairs the delivery of drugs and medical equipment to Iran.…  Seguir leyendo »
